Candidate for Town Clerk
Hi, my name is Kathy Hill Brown. I’m very proud to say that I’ve called Berne home for over 30 years.
I’ve served as Berne’s Deputy Town Clerk for over four years. I’ve also worked as Berne’s Building Department Clerk.
As your Town Clerk, my focus will be on full transparency. My commitment is to serve you with honesty, openness, respect and to give back to Berne –
“Because the salary for the Town Clerk is so inflated, I pledge to gift 10% of my salary for my first two years in office to our Berne Public Library.”
I believe residents deserve to know what’s happening in our town government clearly, completely and on time. I will change how Town Hall communicates with you and what you’re able to see. I will make sure that:
- Town board meeting agendas and minutes are posted on time,
- Town financial records and spending will be open and easy to access, and
- Our digital newsletter will return to keep us all updated with meeting times, news and important information
Another change I’ll make is that in addition to regular hours, I will open Town Hall on Thursdays and add one evening each week. This way folks who have to be at work don’t have to use vacation time to take care of their town business — like they do now.
I’ve served on the Town Planning Board and currently volunteer as Treasurer for the Berne Public Library Board of Trustees.
I’ve helped at Albany County rabies clinics and worked as the Communications Outreach Coordinator for Community Caregivers. I am very committed to public service. Professionally, I’ve worked in the finance sector for nearly 10 years.
I’m the proud mom of two wonderful kids, Trevor and Paige, who spent all of their school years at BKW.
As an independent elected official, I won’t answer to any one person or party, I’ll answer to you. We need to set aside personal attacks, focus on open dialogue and get the job done.
