Allen Stempel,
Candidate for Highway Superintendent

Hi, my name is Allen Stempel.

Many of you have known some of the five generations of my family who have called Berne home, all the way back to my great-grandfather.

As Highway Superintendent you have my word that –

“I’ll work my hardest to make sure that every one of our roads are as safe as can be, up to code and plowed, that our books are wide open — and most of all, that our highway workers and their families know that they’ll come home safe.”

I’ve built my own successful business. If you’ve ever owned a business, you know that you have to be good at everything from keeping costs down to getting the job done.

I have experience working on heavy equipment, maintenance, property, and forest management, along with long-term knowledge of mechanics, commercial snow removal, and working with tight budgets.

I’m skilled at operating graders, bulldozers, wheel loaders, log skidders, and dump trucks. I can operate any machinery the town owns.

I’m a certified arborist and dendrologist. Because of my extensive knowledge of forest management, my roadside risk assessment skills with trees will keep our roads safer and will help to avoid overtime and emergencies.

I’ll work hard to show that whatever party someone belongs to doesn’t matter, how we treat each other does. The fact that I am a registered Republican running on this Democratic line proves just that.

I will open the books to show where the Highway Department is spending your money and do all that I can to coordinate workers, projects, equipment and funding.

I started working at 16 for my grandfather Rudy Stempel, who was loved in our town. He modeled for me how important it is to work hard and to give back.

Rudy served several terms as our Town Supervisor and opened the Stempel Family Sawmill. Over 50 years later, the sawmill still serves the Hilltowns. He and his brother John Jr. volunteered as Berne firefighters for decades.

I’m very proud of my family who have always served Berne.

Now, my Aunt Kathy Stempel is our Berne Library Director and my Aunt Sandra Kisselback is the Berne town historian.

My family’s deep commitment to Berne has given me a lot of inspiration to serve our town. I’ll work my hardest for Berne’s next five generations like the Stempels have always done for the town’s last five generations.
